Fajita Marinade – So Easy and Frugal

How to make a fajita marinade like a master chef

I made the best Fajita marinade tonight. It was so delicious and the best part was that I just about had everything already in my pantry that I needed (except for the fresh lime – do use a fresh lime and not packaged lime juice. The flavor is more explosive.). Having a well stocked pantry is the key. I always make sure I stock up on spices when they are on sale. The flavor was amazing. It works well for both chicken or steak. I used it on chicken and made Chicken Fajitas on the BBQ grill. You could even freeze the marinating chicken or steak so you will have an easy meal on hand for a night when you are busy or tired.



  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 fresh lime, squeeze all juice into the marinade
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tbsp. paprika
  • 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper



  • Combine all ingredients in a container and whisk. Alternatively, combine all ingredients in a ziploc bag and mix around with your hands.
  • Add chicken or steak to marinade.
  • Seal the bag or container and place in the refrigerator for 2 – 3 hours.

The clips hold the sides of the bag up while you fill the bag. It’s like having another set of arms. I then placed the chicken breast in the bag, sealed it, and put it in the fridge for a couple of hours. You could also put it in the freezer and then you would have an easy freezer meal!
