The Kentucky Derby is just a few days away and lots of people will be visiting Louisville, Kentucky. So, how can you visit this beautiful town and not break the bank? Find things to do that won’t cost you a penny!

Cave Hill Cemetery has many historical buildings and monuments to see. Notable grave sites include those of Colonel Harlan Sanders and George Rogers Clark.

The Frankfort Avenue Trolley runs on the last Friday of every month between 6:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. The trolley stops at participating shops, restaurants and galleries along Frankfort, Mellwood and Story Avenues. Lots of the businesses along the route host special sales, live music and refreshments.

The Louisville Nature Center is centrally located in Louisville and gives visitors a chance to connect with nature. There are butterfly and dragonfly gardens, hiking trails, wildlife exhibits, and more! Make sure you bring your lunch and relax at their picnic tables or under the gazebo.

Movies in the Park takes place just across the river from downtown Louisville. All movies are FREE. Just bring a lawn chair and cooler to make it more enjoyable.

The Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind offers FREE tours to the public. Learn how braille and talking books are made, and see demonstrations of special education aids.

Shakespeare in the Parks is is the oldest, FREE Shakespeare festival in the United States.

The Speed Art Museum has FREE admission every Sunday through March 2021.

The St. James Court Art Show is held at the end of September or the beginning of October each year.

Thunder over Louisville is held on the Saturday two weeks prior to the Kentucky Derby (first Saturday in May). It is one of the largest annual fireworks displays in North America and it’s totally FREE! Prior to the fireworks you can enjoy a spectacular air show that is also FREE. It all starts at 3 p.m. and usually ends around 10:00 p.m. Make sure you head to the waterfront early in the day to score a good spot!

Waterfront Park is the perfect spot to spend the afternoon watching boats go down the Ohio River. Kids can also cool down in the waterplay area (fun for all ages). There are lots of walking paths and picnic areas.
